We will take the foot passenger ferry from Stromness to North Hoy, then enjoy a leisurely walk to the Dwarfie Stone, where we hope to see Orkney’s only resident pair of White-Tailed Eagles. Along the way we have a good chance of seeing other raptors like Hen Harriers and Peregrines. The roadside verges host a wealth of wildflowers, while Stonechats perch on the fence line. Walking distance approx. 6-7 miles, mainly road walking with some rough paths.
This is a full day so please bring a packed lunch and plenty fluids. Walking boots, waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers are recommended, as well as sun-screen and insect repellent. Binoculars and camera are advisable. If time allows, we will visit the café at the end of our walk.
