The Ultimate Puffin Experience is a brand new island adventure for 2026! Puffins are one of the world’s favourite seabirds, and it is certainly on of the most requested species we get asked about on our walks. The island of Westray is the best place in Orkney to see these colourful and charismatic birds and this day trip will take you along a cliff top path where you can have the most wonderful puffin experience!
Here are some need to knows about your day:
The Ultimate Puffin Experience runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 13th May to 3rd August inclusive
The ferry is approx. 90 minutes from Kirkwall and your return ferry fare is included in the price.
Our walk will be up to a maximum of 6 miles on quiet island roads and clifftop paths
The main aim of the day is to see puffins but we will also look at any other birds, wildflowers, insects and mammals that we see
Timings – meet in Kirkwall at 10.15am and our ferry returns to Kirkwall at 7.20pm.

Do we have to pay for our ferry fares?
No, the return ferry fare is included in the price and we will book the ferry for the whole group.
Can we use public transport for this walk?
Yes, the meeting point for this walk is in Kirkwall and just a short walk from the bus station. We use Orkney Ferries for our transport to Westray.
Are their public toilets on this island trip?
Yes, there are public toilets in Kirkwall, on board the ferry and at Rapness on Westray where the ferry docks. Once we set off on our walk there will not be any public toilets until we return to the pier at Rapness.
Can we join this walk if we are staying on Westray?
Yes, you absolutely can. We offer a reduced price to anyone who is staying on Westray but we would need to have people booked from Kirkwall for the trip to go ahead.
