Ally GJuly 7, 2025.Verified The BEST way to meet Orkney This is the second year we have enjoyed an Orkney Wildlife Walk with Megan. Thanks to her careful guidance by email, we had all the information we needed beforehand to have a thoroughly enjoyable day. From the moment we met at the Quayside, Megan never stopped scanning for, pointing out and identifying every type wildlife visible. She spent the day teaching us to recognise them too. No question was too small or too difficult. She’s always happy to stop and explain what you’re looking at, and answer any question you may have.Megan’s Orkney Wildlife Walks are always really well planned as she knows exactly where to find all of Orkney’s fabulous wild secrets! and takes really good care of her walkers. We were fascinated by so many wild flowers (thriving in the verges of Shapinsay), soothed and rejuvenated at a pristinebeach with stunning views and transfixed watching the hunting flights of a Hen Harrier and Merlin. We highly recommended Orkney Wildlife Walks and a visit to Orkney would not be the same without one. Helen IJune 21, 2025.Verified Orkney therapy! We had a whole day with Megan, starting from Kirkwall on the ferry to Shapinsay . It was a gentle 6mile round walk with lots of time to stop, take in the scenery, the bird life in breeding season and the marsh and heathland wildflowers, and a beach picnic to ourselves . She is so knowledgeable and is able shared it with us , particularly the lovely folk names of the wild flowers . Thank you Megan - highly recommended BarbicanFrogJune 18, 2025.Verified Excellent, friendly and well informed guide on a beautiful walk on Mull Head We had a marvellous day out with Megan looking at the wildlife on and around Mull Head. She walks at a gentle pace so that you can watch the birds and appreciate the scenery. A fount of knowledge about both the flora and fauna of Orkney she really enhanced our enjoyment of this beautiful area. As well as the bird life she introduced us to the flowers and the insects and told us about the way they interact. We especially appreciated the helpful tips to help us identify species that look so similar to the amateur - so cormorants vs shags, guillemots vs razor bills etc etc. Megan is involved closely with local nature groups and told us about surveys of voles and the ongoing efforts to rid the islands of stoats. As a follow up treat she provided a list of all the species we saw on the walk. A fascinating walk. Strong recommendation if you want to enhance your understanding of this wonderful environment. See KJune 16, 2025.Verified Fabulous Walk in Deerness We had a fantastic nature walk to Mull Head in Deerness Orkney. Megan was very knowledgeable about wild flowers and birds and we learnt SO much on our walk. We were novice bird watchers and catching sight of several puffins on the day was a huge bonus for us. We had a wonderful time and could not recommend Megan highly enough. Susan CJune 14, 2025.Verified Birdwatching on Hoy Megan took us (two couples) to Hoy for the day. She arranged the car ferry for us and provided an itinerary that allowed us to thoroughly explore the island and check out the great birding and historical spots. Although birds were our primary focus, she was a font of knowledge about local insects and flowers as well. We learned a lot and enjoyed her company. We recommend her highly. Fiona FJune 12, 2025.Verified Mull head wildlife ramble. We enjoyed a great walk with Megan on Mull head, Deerness. With her expert guidance we were able to observe many sea birds including guillemots, shags, fulmars, razor bills and puffins. We also learned the names and habits of the wild flowers on our walk. We throughly recommend Megan, a very friendly and knowledgable guide for a lovely costal walk. lafuturaJune 9, 2025.Verified Don't miss out on a walk with Megan if you come to Orkney! I'm embarrassingly behind on writing this review but wasn't going to give up on posting it as Megan is every bit the gem that I was hoping for.I did the Shapinsay stroll with her and at the time of booking it was only myself. Unlike other tour operators she will go out (and she means it) even if it is just you. In this case, however, there were two other people that joined and it was a lovely day.Megan's knowledge of flora and fauna was mind-blowing. We'd be walking along and she would spot the tiniest little flower and tell us all about it. She definitely knows her stuff where birds are involved and I learned a ton. She also is genuinely easy-going and is intent on everyone having a positive experience....which I know we certainly did.I can't recommend her enough to anyone who wants to experience more of Orkney than what you would get by driving a car around, or really if you just want to have a nice walk and learn about the environment around you. Book without hesitation! Climber688931June 5, 2025.Verified Highly recommended We had a wonderful walk with Megan last Wednesday evening at Marwick head. She pointed out so many birds we would not have spotted - including Puffins - and we had such a great time at the look out point with Fulmars and Gannets swirling around us! Megan is also extremely knowledgeable about all the beautiful wild flowers. Everything was very well organized and friendly - we would highly recommend! Gill MJune 2, 2025.Verified Show me a puffin! Excellent thoughtful guide. Megan had a well planned route highlighting the best spots to view a magnificent seabird city on Marwick Head, and even found us a puffin, one of our bucket list birds. Aliking5June 1, 2025.Verified Brilliant guide to Orkney wildlife We had a wonderful half day walking with Megan on Mull Head. She is incredibly knowledgeable, passionate about Orkney and its wildlife, and a great guide - not only do you see so much more with her, after the walk we able to distinguish many of the species she’d talked to us about. We’ll definitely book again if we are back in Orkney. Thank you Megan!
A Fabulous Day Out
Nothing could be better than sitting by the loch watching a short eared owl hunting, other than seeing an otter. How you spotted the otter Megan I will never know, but I’m really glad you did!! It was a fabulous day out, thank you.
