  Of many tours, one of the best!
Wonderful experience with a deeply knowledgeable naturalist - about four miles around Mull Head, gaining knowledge of the birds, sea life, and plant life while enjoying compelling scenery. High recommend.

  Mull Head late August 2024 - having our eyes opened
My wife and I visited Orkney for the first time in August 2024, wanting to see sites, scenery and wildlife. For our last day we arranged a bespoke walk at Mull Head with Megan. Normally we are quite good at spotting things for ourselves, but it was remarkable how much more Megan spotted and brought to our attention – flowers, birds and even rare insects. We were most impressed with her knowledge of the wildlife of the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and recommend Megan’s services to other visitors.

  Fab wildlife walk!
We had a fab time on our wildlife walk. Megan was informative and knowledgeable. She knew just where to take us and what we were looking at. Organising the walk was easy and Megan was very flexible when the weather didn't go our way. I would highly recommend a wildlife walk with Wild Orkney Walks.   A brilliant and eye-opening walk around the eastern cliffs of Orkney
We had a wonderful time with Megan when we did a three-hour walk around Mull Head, on the east of the mainland of Orkney. We have two kids (7 and 10), one who is very into nature and birds, one who is not always the best walker, and Megan was brilliant at making the walk work for everyone in our group. We saw and learnt a huge amount - so much more than we would have done by ourselves. Highly recommended.

  Outstanding
This was my first visit to Orkney so I wanted to get the best experience and be guided to where I could encompass all that nature could provide. Having contacted Megan she arranged a schedule that covered four days of walking which included the coastline around Burwick, Stromness, and in addition travelling to Shapinsay and Flotta. Whilst birds are my main interest, it was also a great introduction to many plants, probably many of which I had just walked by in the past, as well as identifying many butterflies, moths and damselflies. The walks were unhurried, with Megan sharing her vast knowledge along the way. On Flotta I was lucky to see an Otter, which Megan spotted, that had just caught a fish and one evening Megan texted to say that Orcas were passing by near to where I was staying. I was able to walk down and watch the pod pass by, something I never thought I would ever experience, a wow moment for me! I would absolutely recommend anyone interested in natural history to book a walk with Megan, as for me, she greatly enhanced my experience on Orkney, well beyond anything I could have anticipated.

  An informative morning's stroll
We had a great morning's stroll along the southern mainland coast with Megan. We learnt a lot about the flora and coastal wildlife. If you're looking for an informative walk that goes at your pace, book one of Megan's walks!

  A wildflower walk around Shapinsay
We went on a walk around the tiny island of Shapinsay. Megan was knowledgeable, friendly and personable. The walk was a good length and we went at a good pace. We had lunch on a secluded beach with a stunning view out to sea. We’ve only spent six nights in Orkney this time round but plan to spend longer next time and will definitely be seeing if we can book another walk at least with Megan. Oh, and on our way back from Shapinsay to Kirkwall on the ferry, we saw the most stunning double rainbow!

  Fabulous wildlife walk with a wonderful guide
We cannot find enough superlatives to describe not just the 3 hours we had with Megan on Mainland Orkney let alone the care, thoughtfulness and detail which went into planning it. Megan showed great empathy and understanding in helping us organise a day in Orkney as part of a cruise. She was helpful beyond expectations in suggesting how best to spend the day. The time with her was amazing and not only did we see the Puffins ( which were top of the list) but a host of other birds and wildlife. Her knowledge is incredible and she shares it in a lovely way. She gave us a route and papers with birds we might see and afterwards sent a comprehensive list of things we had seen. She took into account that we are both in our 70’s and took us on the walk at a very comfortable pace. This was a real highlight in our many cruise excursions over the years and we cannot recommend it highly enough. Lifelong memories made with a very special person

  Evening walk at Brodgar - a wonderful experience
Megan is so knowledgeable and welcoming, she made our evening walk around the Brodgar Standing Stones a very relaxed and enjoyable one. For once we were blessed with good weather (at last!) and Megan enabled us to make the most of this by pointing out all sorts of things which I would have missed if I'd been walking alone - flowers, insects, birds, mammals, you name it, we learned about it! Thank you Megan for such a great evening, I'll look forward to doing more walks both on the mainland and other islands on future visits to Orkney.

We did the Burwick coastal walk in glorious blue sky sunshine with very light breeze (definitely special weather). We are keen but novice birders but Megan provided so much knowledge and also imparted the differences between often mistaken identification of several sea birds. The additional knowledge on plants really made for a most enjoyable and educational experience. Thank you for your excellent and tailored guidance. (Still need to spot the short eared owls but we’re hopeful).

Had a lovely walk with Megan up Gruf Hill in Orphir today. As an Orkney local, this was somewhere I hadn’t been before, so having a guided walk was a great way to explore and get my bearings in the area. Megan’s knowledge of the plants and wildflowers was excellent and she has a relaxed, friendly manner sure to put anyone at ease. A very enjoyable morning.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable walk around Mull Head with Megan last week. Megan is an expert in her field and even though I have been watching wildlife for over 50 years I still learned from her. My wife isn’t as experienced as myself but she thoroughly enjoyed Megan’s help with identifying birds and animals.

I had a fabulous day walking both of the ‘short hidden gem’ routes with Megan in early April 2022. Whilst I’m a keen walker, I know nothing about the plants and animals en route with my bird descriptions including “the one with the ninja mask” and “he had rosy cheeks and wee matching collar.” As a total novice, I valued Megan’s patient and non-judgemental approach to explaining Orkney’s wonderful array of wildlife and her flexible attitude allowed the two walks to be done together when the weather was descent. The walks provided a great variety of habitats, birds and flowers and, having Megan as a guide, meant I saw, identified and appreciated significantly more than I would alone. The Hen Harriers with the male pulling out a few of his best dance moves in the sky and the long tailed ducks in their finery were probably my highlights. I would highly recommend – time and money well spent.

Lovely walk with Megan today round Orphir Bay. Looking at it on the map I thought we would be round in an hour – but 3 hours flew by! There was so much to see and hear (and sometimes taste). Megan is a terrific guide: very calm, quiet and constantly alert to the unexpected (like the hares boxing on the hill behind us). She has a deep knowledge of the place, and it was a real pleasure to go out with her.

Megan took us on a fab evening walk up Marwick Head, she is so knowledgable and interesting, taking time to answer our questions while still being observant with all going on around us in the air just in case we missed something. We saw so many seabirds and some peregrine falcons, we definitely weren’t expecting that! Will be back in touch for our next trip to Orkney and will definitely recommend Wild Orkney Walks. Thankyou Megan 💖
