The Seabirds & Wildflowers Walk has been created to give you an introduction to some of our seabird and wildflower species. The walk will be at a gentle pace and we will take the time to share some useful identification tips with you.

Our route will start with a visit to The Gloup (a collapsed sea cave), before following a coastal path around part of a local nature reserve. There is a lovely mix of habitats including farmland, heath, rocky shores and cliffs. Some of the seabirds we are likely to see include Shags, Fulmars, Black Guillemots, Common Guillemots, Razorbills, Skuas and Gulls but we will also see other birds like waders and we will keep our eyes peeled for other wildlife including mammals and insects. The variety of habitats will allow us the opportunity to identify several different wildflower species including Thrift, Birds Foot Trefoil, Orchids, Scurvy Grass, and many more.

“A brilliant and eye-opening walk around the eastern cliffs of Orkney”

“A fantastic introduction to the flora and fauna of Orkney”

Walk length approx. 3 miles at a leisurely pace.

If you fancy a longer walk, take a look at the Mull Head Wildlife Walk which follows a 4 mile circular trail around the nature reserve.
