Puffin Magic My wife and I contacted Megan as we wanted to see puffins. Her knowledge of wildlife in general and puffins in particular was exemplary! We found that the itinerary that she organised to accomodate our wishes & limited schedule was fantastic. She replied to my email requesting her availability within 6 hours. Our day with her was a delight and we were able to view puffins with her expert guidance. Thank you Colin & Pauline , Adelaide ,Australia

Knowledge and friendly natural guide experience which improved the rest of the visit to Orkney My wife, son, and I scheduled a bespoke walk with Wild Orkney Walks, and it was exceedingly excellent. We had issues with the ferry, and she went out of her way to reschedule our walk. On the walk, Megan shared a vast amount of knowledge about the birds, flowers, and insects we observed. This walk improved the rest of our wildlife experience during our trip to Orkney and mainland Scotland. I can recommend Wild Orkney Walks enough!

An Introduction to Yesnaby, on the west side of Mainland Orkney It was our first time on Orkney & Megan was able to give us a super introduction to the wildlife of Mainland Orkney, especially all the plants including the delightful little Scottish primrose, found only here & on a few parts of the Caithness & Sutherland coast. We also saw the Bonxie, with the white flashes in its wings, & both light & dark colour phases of the Arctic Skua, which also breeds here. A great way to spend the morning!

Not to be missed! We stayed in Orkney for a week and did 3 guided walks with Megan. There is no doubt that the experience enhanced our visit hugely. As we were keen to visit some of the islands Megan booked the ferry and made it all hassle free. The walks were tailored to both the weather and our wishes and we strolled at a relaxed pace with lots of stops to look for wildlife and wild plants. Megan was very knowledgeable and imparted that knowledge in a friendly & engaging manner. We brought packed lunches and our lunch stops were amazing, usually in a sheltered spot on a cliff or a pebbled bay or a valley looking up at hills where eagles can be spotted hunting. We did indeed see a White tailed eagle that day. We had so many fabulous bird sightings, sea birds, waders, song birds, raptors and we were never too far away from that beautiful haunting melody of the curlew. The peace and tranquility was a boost for the mind and soul. At the end of our last day we were presented with a very comprehensive brochure of our walks and findings which is a fabulous keepsake of a very special and memorable trip. If you love nature and a walk then a guided trip with Megan is not to be missed.

A memorable week! Spent 3 marvellous days with Megan who highlighted so much on our scenic walks. Birdwatching was spectacular from White Tailed Eagle first day to the most beautiful close up of Short-eared Owl final day. Must have seen over 50 bird species as well as the wonderful plant life. insects and mammals. Megan was super helpful in other ways giving us tips on places to explore and dine. Without doubt she enhanced our Orkney visit. Thank you!

Walk around Ring of Brodgar We did an evening wildlife walk around the ring of brodgar with Megan and it was magical. She was really informative about the plants, wildlife, birds and we really enjoyed slowing down and observing what was around us. We saw skylarks, meadow pippets, oyster catchers, curlews, ducks, various types of gull.

Ideal way to discover nature on Orkney We arranged a bespoke walk for 4 with Megan to discover more about Orkney’s wildlife and had an amazing walk around Yesnaby, a 10 minute drive from our hotel in Stromness. Our main interest was in the bird life (and we spotted around 20 species) but along the way we discovered so much more as Megan pointed out some of the plants and insects on our route. Megan was great company and hugely informative on all aspects of the Orcadian wildlife we encountered. Thoroughly recommended, we had a great time.

Lovely end of day Walk We did the evening walk at Marwick Head and it was great Megan engaged the small group well and created a nice vibe. We saw a lot of different birds of which the standouts for me were the Bonxies, Fulmars and Oyster catchers the last of which offered a marvellous aerobatic display when a pair were chasing away a Jackdaw ! Highly recommended

A beautiful bespoke walk What a great walk we had with Megan at Burwick last week. I was delighted to be given a voucher for a bespoke walk for my birthday and chose this walk from the many options available. Megan is so friendly and relaxed and gave us a real insight into life on Orkney. She pointed out many species of birds and plants with lots of background information and we found we were much more observant for the rest of our stay. We would highly recommend a walk with Megan for anyone interested in wildlife on Orkney!

Very Interesting Walks

My wife and I had two very interesting walks with Megan during our short time on Orkney last week. Both were very well organised with plenty of useful information provided about what to wear, what to bring and easy instructions about where to meet beforehand. Although both walks were nearly three hours long, they were very easy going and capable for most abilities. Also, Megan is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all the wildlife in Orkney, which added much to the enjoyment of the walks. Therefore, I would have no hesitation in recommending these walks to anyone wanting to learn more about the flora and fauna of these beautiful islands – thank you Megan!

Yesnaby Walks

It is really a big difference to walk with Megan instead of having a walk alone. She opens your eyes for the beauty of wild life, takes the time to answer all questions and adjusts to your own preferences and walking speed. So also suitable for 60+ … 🙂

Thank you Megan for imparting so much

Burwick Coastal Walk

We were lucky enough to spend 3 hours on the cliff tops with Megan who shared her knowledge of the flora and fauna of Orkney with us. She pointed out puffins so we learned how to distinguish them from Razor bills for example ! So interesting to learn about Stoat eradication on the islands.
Thank you Megan for imparting so much.

This tour was the highlight of our vacation

We were thrilled to find that Megan would do a private tour for three people. She fitted the tour to 3.5 hours and what we wanted to see (as much wildlife as possible) A few days before she sent a preview of our route. She had routed us so that we would miss road construction, giving us more time to see things. She is incredibly knowledgeable and eager to share her knowledge. We saw 36 bird species, 9 different wild flowers and 2 butterflies. Megan is always looking and listening. We saw Short-eared Owls and Brown Hares because she saw them first. The Loons Listening Wall and Loons hide were favorites. Lots of birds calling and some with their young. She gave my sister a great introduction t0 the world of birds. I think she has the” birding bug” now. This tour was the highlight of our vacation to Scotland and the Orkney Islands.

Excellent knowledge of a local patch

Mull Head Walk

You just can’t beat excellent knowledge of a local patch when wildlife watching, which is exactly what you get from Megan. Especially when the wildlife of Orkney is so different to what you’re used to back home (which is way down south in Norfolk for us!). We did the Mull Head walk with Megan in early May, which despite being windy, treated us to some great sights of sea birds and summer migrants, my highlights definitely being the arctic and great skuas, which we couldn’t have hoped to have spotted without Megan’s help! Puffins were another highligh, and seeing the bright red maws of tysties, which again Megan was brilliant at spotting those that were calling, so we could see inside their bills! Megan also shared with us some of the key ecological challenges on Orkney and generally gave us a much better sense of what was happening in the landscape. We couldn’t recommend her enough!

A must for any lover of nature

Flotta: A Hidden Gem

Wonderful day walking in Flotta with Megan – even in less-than-ideal weather there’s always something to see, and Megan knows exactly what to look out for. Megan’s enthusiasm and knowledge are fabulous and we had a great time walking and spotting wildlife, birds and plants with her. A must for any lover of nature visiting Orkney.
